Validity Raises $20M in Second Round

December 19th, 2007 · 2 Comments

validity_logo_web_small.jpgValidity (San Jose, CA) just completed a second round of financing lead by Crosslink Capital.  The company develops technology for fingerprint sensors used in laptops and other devices (I wonder if they ever speak to those guys at PayByTouch who have burned through an un-godly sum of money).

The company is run by Jalil Shaikh who was formerly at Broadcom.  Pretty good board put together especially with Don Kirby who was the GM of Synaptics - a leading provider of human interface devices.

logo_crosslink.gif Crosslink Capital (San Francisco) invests in broad stages of a company’s development.  From seed to Series C and more, these guys will look at a lot which sometimes makes it hard to create a pitch. The usually take a lead investor role and more often than not take a board position as well.  Typical investment size ranges from $8-20M (over multiple rounds).  Main areas of focus are in Communications Infrastructure, Semiconductors and Internet/Software.  Peter Rip seems to be the guy you want to pitch.

Validity is a great company. But this was not my deal. I think the real conclusion is *Crosslink* is the firm to pitch. I am just one of six partners. This was done by my partners Mike Stark and Alain Harrus.

    Peter,

Was not trying to infer it was your deal so my apologies if it came out that way. What we are trying to do is give an insight into the VC’s/Banks that are funding companies and hopefully provide greater insight into the firms. The purpose is to give other companies who may be out seeking capital a better perspective as to who they may want to speak with. Your name came up as “the” person to pitch to if given the chance to pitch Crosslink.
