ThisNext (Santa Monica, CA), the social shopping network, finalized $5M in Series B led by their Series A financiers Anthem Venture Partners and Clearstone Venture Partners. The site offers users a creative way of recommending products and giving feedback on them which will hopefully translate into a sale.
This social shopping space will expand throughout the year with other companies pushing in such as Gonga and eBay’s attempt at social commerce. ThisNext has come a long way since its start back in 2006 and is now a global platform of recommendations which actually allows users to see what other users are shopping for using Google Maps. Pretty cool.

Anthem Venture Partners (Santa Monica, CA) is an early stage investor that really puts great value on the entrepreneur. They are very focused on partnering with unique individuals that possess exceptional technical and management ability, as well as the passion and persistence to ensure the success of the company. While you may hear this sentiment echoed by many firms, Anthem is a young firm that lives this mantra.
Typical investment size ranges between $1 to $5 million and they like to take the lead or co-lead a position. They are not afraid to work with other angel investors either. These guys are highly focused on technology and the platforms which differentiate your company from others. They like things like defensible IP, significant market size and talented managers.
Anthem invests in technology companies - biotech, wireless, consumer, semiconductors, storage solutions.
Since the firm is relatively small, there is no one bad to pitch. Brian Mesic (consumer end-market semiconductors, internet enabled services, advanced materials, and digital media) and Bill Woodward (innovative software platforms, emerging new media models, and broadband convergence) are the people you want to pitch.
